Super concentrated whey (SCW)/super concentrated permeate (SCP) process

As a by-product of cheese-making, whey can be processed to make whey protein concentrate, producing almost the same quantity of whey permeate.

Many dairies face the challenge of disposing of large quantities of low-value, unprocessed whey and whey permeate, as refining costs are prohibitive for small quantities.

Process
The Super Concentrated Whey and Super Concentrated Permeate process (SCW/SCP) provides a faster, more effective and more cost-efficient alternative to conventional whey and permeate powder processes.

By replacing the time-consuming crystallization process of conventional solutions with a continuous process based on the Anhydro Paraflash dryer, the SCW/SCP process enables the production of whey powder with up to 72 per cent solids, and permeate powder with up to 82 per cent solids - not only faster, but also at a significantly lower cost.

The process requires less space and delivers higher capacity than conventional solutions, while also providing significant energy savings through higher evaporation of the product before it enters the spray dryer after a cooling time of as little as 1 to 2 hours.

Added value, higher capacity, lower costs and less waste

  • Higher capacity
  • Smaller footprint
  • Lower energy costs
  • Higher solids content
  • Shorter processing time
