Anhydro delivers large evaporator for potato protein water

Andelskartoffelmelsfabrikken Sønderjylland (AKS) in Toftlund (Co-Operative Potato Factory) has just invested in an Anhydro evaporator for the concentration of potato fruit juice.

Potato fruit juice is a waste product from the production of potato starch and potato protein and is mainly used for fertilizers. Due to the big quantities and the relatively low dry solids content there are major costs involved with the storing and spreading of the potato fruit juice.

Anhydro A/S has together with AKS optimized and made efficient the evaporation process so that it can pay to concentrate potato fruit juice.

The new evaporator is a MVR-evaporator with very low energy consumption, and concentrates 60 tons/h potato fruit juice from 3% dry solids to 40% dry solids, 120 hours without stopping for cleaning.

The plant was delivered, installed and commissioned in a very short time. The contract was entered in March, 2009, and the plant was delivered and in operation for the start of the potato campaign on the 1st October, 2009.

The whole project execution was carried through satisfactorily for AKS, and the plant lives fully up to the expectations, both as regards energy consumption, operation time, and the purity of the condensate from the evaporated potato fruit juice.
